Matthew John Garsteck - born January 17, 1985. I lived in a small town in central Mi called Clare from 1st grade till I graduated. A Month after graduation I was in Basic Military Training for the Air Force. I had to get out of Michigan as quick as possible to go and see the world.

The Air Force brought me to Charleston South Carolina as my first duty station which would remain my own duty station. Even though it is the only base I was stationed at, I did deploy twice to the Middle East. It was a new culture and completely new mindset. All in all it would be two experiences that I would not soon forget.

I discovered photography using a point and shoot camera. A few pictures that were taken received great comments and it propelled me to take more and more pictures. Soon after I bought a film SLR and a few months after that I bought a DSLR.

Photography became an obsession for me on my second deployment. Taking pictures and learning as much as possible was my escape from the harsh environment I was in. I was obsessed with HDR and spent most my time developing that technique.

To me, photography is the only way I have been able to express myself completely. I wish to get inside the human mind and instead of trying to describe emotions and feelings through words I will express them through images that you can see and feel.
